The Mohawk Council of Kanesatake invites all community members to take part in an important process on four (4) new draft laws that will be put to a community vote in June 2025:
These laws respond to key issues raised by community members and were designed to protect our people, lands, and future. Your input on these key pieces of legislation is essential to shape laws that are perfectly suited for the needs of Kanehsatakero:non, before the vote takes place. Have your say on the laws that impact our community, get involved and help shape Kanehsatake’s future.
TIMELINE
Thursday, April 17 – LAWS POSTED ONLINE
The draft laws are now available to consult on the MCK website and print copies are available upon request at the band office.
Monday, April 28 – INITIAL VIRTUAL INFORMATION SESSION
4PM TO 6PM POSTPONED TO 5:30PM TO 8PM – REGISTRATION REQUIRED
This initial session will provide a detailed review of the draft laws on which the community will be asked to vote. There will be time planned to ask questions and share your thoughts. This is a key step in understanding the proposed laws.
Wednesday, April 30 & Thursday, May 1
IN-PERSON ROUNDTABLE WORKSHOPS – REGISTRATION REQUIRED
TIME & PLACE TO BE DETERMINED
Attend in person and discuss directly with legal advisors and MCK leadership. These open-format workshops provide a great opportunity to have in-depth conversations and raise specific concerns. You may register right away for these sessions, and a time & place update will be provided as soon as possible (registration details below).

Continue the conversation and help shape the laws.
Monday, May 12 – VIRTUAL INFORMATION SESSION ON DRAFT LAWS
5:30 PM to 8PM
See how your feedback has shaped the final drafts and provide lany additional comments.

To attend these sessions, you must register. For virtual meetings, a Teams invite will be sent to you upon registration. For in-person meetings, time and place will depend on the number of registrations, therefore, please register in advance as much as possible. You may proceed one of two ways:
